Welcome to Day 1 of 30 of My Zero Waste Family Plan
(Day 1: Define What Zero Waste Means for Your Family)
When we hear “zero waste,” we often think of people who fit all their trash for a year into a single mason jar—but that’s not the goal here. Zero waste isn’t about perfection. It’s about intentionality. So I’ve termed it so that you can understand Zero waste is really just slowing down so we can be wise.
For a busy, homeschooling, business-owning mom, working mom, or SAHM like you, zero waste isn’t just about reducing physical waste—it’s also about how we use our time, energy, and resources wisely.
What Does Zero Waste Mean for Moms?
Instead of focusing just on plastic-free living, think of zero waste as cutting out the excess—the things that drain you, clutter your home, and steal your peace.
For our family, zero waste means:
✔ Cutting out wasteful habits (mindless scrolling, overbuying, clutter).
✔ Simplifying meal planning to reduce food waste and decision fatigue.
✔ Creating systems that make our home and homeschool run smoothly.
✔ Finding rhythms that allow us to do what truly matters—like spending quality time together.
Step 1: Define What Zero Waste Means for Your Family
Before starting this journey, take 5-10 minutes to ask yourself these questions:
- Where do I feel the most overwhelmed? (Clutter, laundry, schedules?)
- What is wasting my time and energy?
- What’s one area I want to simplify first?
Your version of zero waste will look different from someone else’s—and that’s the beauty of it. Make it work for your life, not the other way around. I have learned through the 8 years of being a Mother that I will stop living in frustration with things I don’t like that are going on. Its madness. What is the expression? ” Doing the same thing over and over is the definition of insanity. ” I mean really it is. Ever been there complaining how much you hate your kids bedtime routine? Or Why is it that they just cant put away their 1000s of toys?
Now is the time to STOP. You are in charge here. Take it back .
This week, let’s set the foundation for a home, schedule, and mindset that reflects intentionality—so we can be more present for what truly matters.
I have made a video about this here. I hope you join in on the 30 day Challenge.
